The Twins
Savir awakens to a blinding light, this is not the light of natural sun, no, this light seems to radiate from the tip of a staff carried by a haggard human male. He is followed quickly and closely by a female that carries a broadsword at the ready. Savir realizes he isn’t safe, perhaps he should follow these humans, they may know the way out of what seems to be a pitch black forest.
Savir remembers some people in town who spoke of a nearby forest, unfortunately he failed to pay closer attention, a mistake he may come to regret as he has very little sense as to the alignment of these two humans he has been following for about 10 minutes.
They stop moving. Visible shaking overtakes the both of them, the Female drops her sword, the male, his staff. Savir feels a chill start to creep up his hands as though an unliving force has taken him by the hand and is now pulling down with some invisible force. But his will is powerful and he breaks free of the icy grasp. Without hesitation Savir sprints off towards he two shaken humans, he grabs the female by the shoulders and shakes her violently.
“Snap out of it! you have to snap out of it”
There is no response as her eyes glass over with crystal and she stops shaking, she stops breathing. Savirs attention is now directed at the male whose eyes now shine with a pale yellow, his silhouette begins to smoke, savir steps back to spot what caused the sudden frost attack on everyone. To no avail, all that can be seen are trees that cannot speak and dirt that has long been silenced. As Savir turns back he can see the human male picking up his staff and quickly examining his partner, savir detects sadness but must react to a bolt of energy being shot at him from the butt-end of the Humans staff. Savir successfully dodges the seafoam green bolt.
“I didnt do this” Savir yells as he picks up the females broadsword and charges the Male.
The Human drops his staff and falls to his knees, Savir yields and begins to approach him, only to hear the soft murmurs of ancient incantations being spewed from his lips, Savirs eyes widen as he braces for the humans blast.
In what seems like a lightning quick single motion the human raises his arms well above his head he brings them down below his waist and begins to mime shapes in the stagnant air of that black forest, a light blue aura surrounds him as his eyes flash a bright blue. Savir sees this, only for a second.
“Giddim zul Akama zul Reinil zul abadam” mutters the Human as savir is flung into the air 15 metres high and 30 metres back.
Just before impact Savir feels the cold that he felt earlier, he has stopped inches from the ground and then set down, almost gently. Although relieved, Savir feels the gravity of the creature that lurks just beyond the darkness of this land, the human must feel it too as Savir looks in his direction the staff is gone and the human has successfully made his leave of this clearing and of his now frozen partner. Savir looks to the sky, 12 blackbirds fly overhead the starry sky beating down on their backs.
Savir hears wood snapping in the background, then he hears the snapping of wood only a few feet away from him, his sight begins to blur. He can hear entire trees crashing down far away, at the same time he hears screams, as though ripping the inside of him in two he hears screams that make him feel as though there are a countless number of helpless animals inside of him.
The bustle of a busy city.
The crying of children.
Day turning into night.
The echoing footsteps of gods.
Silence.
Savir looks down at the ground to find he is in a warm pool of blood, the ground begins to tremble and shake as decrepit forms of things once human and inhuman begin to rise. Savir turns to run. A figure of almost blinding red skin, with eyes closed stands before him smiling a smile that reveals every sharp black tooth in its jaw. The figure is naked but shows no likeness to any creature savir has ever laid his eyes on. A feeling of detachment overtakes Savir and then the cold. The red-skinned creature stands there never opening its eyes as Savir drops the sword and then begins to fall backwards into a numb joy.
